Jio Platforms vs Reliance Industries shares
They are two different companies with two different shares. Here's what each one gives you — and the one way they connect in this IPO.
Short answer
Buying Reliance Industries (RIL) shares does not give you Jio Platforms shares, and vice versa. RIL owns about two-thirds of Jio Platforms, so an RIL share gives indirect exposure to Jio alongside RIL’s other businesses. Eligible RIL shareholders as of 14 Oct 2026 can apply in a reserved portion of the Jio Platforms IPO — but they still have to bid and pay.

Direct vs indirect exposure
A Jio Platforms share is a claim on the digital business only. An RIL share is a claim on the whole group — energy, retail, new energy and more — with Jio Platforms included through RIL’s 66.43% (pre-issue) stake. So the two shares will usually move differently. RIL’s price reflects all of its businesses; Jio Platforms’ price will reflect the telecom and digital outlook alone.
Some investors refer to a “holding-company discount”: the idea that a listed parent can trade below the sum of its parts. Whether and how much that applies to RIL after Jio lists is a matter of analyst opinion, not fact.
- Reliance Industries' pre-issue stake66.43% (593.78 crore shares as of 31 Mar 2026)
- RIL shareholder reservationUp to ₹2,500 crore for eligible individual and HUF shareholders of Reliance Industries as of 14 Oct 2026; no discount
Exact eligibility (e.g. holding on the RHP date, application caps) is set out in the RHP — read it before applying in this category.
Common mix-up: 'Reliance Jio share price'
Search results for “Reliance Jio share price” often show the RIL share price, because RIL is the listed company. Jio Platforms will have its own ticker only after listing. Listing details.
