Business model: how Jio Platforms makes money
Connectivity
Prepaid and postpaid mobile plans (4G/5G), home broadband and fixed-wireless services sold to consumers. This is the core revenue driver, measured by subscribers and ARPU.
Enterprise
Connectivity, cloud and managed services sold to businesses and government.
Digital platforms
Consumer apps and digital services, including music streaming (JioSaavn) and conversational AI (Haptik), which coverage of the RHP lists among JPL’s subsidiaries.
Technology and devices
An in-house technology stack, network equipment and devices, plus AI products the company has highlighted in its IPO materials.
- Customers (end FY26)About 524 million
- ARPU (Jan–Mar 2026 quarter)₹214 per user per month
ARPU (average revenue per user per month) multiplied by the subscriber base is the simplest way to understand the telecom revenue line. Tariff increases lift ARPU; competition and subscriber churn pull against it.
Subsidiaries
The most important subsidiary is Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, described in the offer documents as a material subsidiary; up to ₹27,500 crore of IPO proceeds are earmarked to repay its borrowings. Other subsidiaries mentioned in coverage include Saavn and Haptik. The RHP contains the complete list. Reported
Investors and shareholders
- Reliance Industries' pre-issue stake66.43% (593.78 crore shares as of 31 Mar 2026)
- Meta and Google combined stakeAbout 17.7% (Meta ≈10%, Google ≈7.7%)
- LeadershipMukesh Ambani (Chairman); Akash Ambani (Managing Director)
In 2020, Jio Platforms raised capital from a series of global investors. By June 2020, Business Standard reported it had raised ₹97,885.65 crore in under seven weeks from Facebook (now Meta), Silver Lake, Vista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR, Mubadala and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, at an equity value of ₹4.91 lakh crore. Google invested later that year. Holdings since then may have changed; the RHP’s shareholding pattern is the current reference.
Because the IPO is entirely a fresh issue, none of these investors is selling in the offer. Their percentages fall slightly as new shares are issued. By our arithmetic, RIL’s stake would move from 66.43% to roughly 64.5% after 27 crore new shares, if the reported share counts are correct. Estimate

Competitors
Jio’s main competitors in Indian mobile are Bharti Airtel (listed), Vodafone Idea (listed) and the state-owned BSNL. In home broadband it also competes with Airtel and many regional fibre operators; satellite broadband is an emerging area of competition. Comparing Jio Platforms with Bharti Airtel on ARPU, subscriber growth and valuation multiples is the most common way analysts benchmark the IPO price.
